Constant Formé-Bècherat Photography

What kind of equipment (camera body, lens, filters, flash, tripod, cleaning equipment other) do you use?

I use a 5D Mark III camera for every of my works and I often switch between a Canon 50mm f.1.4 and a Canon 16-35mm f2.8.

I also have in my bag a Canon 24-70mm f2.8 but I prefer fixe lenses so i don’t use it very often. I also have a Manfrotto Tripod for night photography only. No filters are plugged on my lenses and I don’t like Flash light. I prefer constant light so I have a LED panel that i use for portrait stuff and only in studio. I have a big bag and specialize clothes for my reports across countries.

Constant Forme-Becherat 001

What do you like and dislike about your equipment, specially your camera, and how would you improve it?

I completely like my camera. It’s a perfect equipment for what i want to do. I would probably prefer fix lenses like the 35mm f1.4 and the 85mm f1.2.

A second « security » camera will be great like the Canon 6D.

Constant Forme-Becherat 002

What is your favourite lens, and why?

It depend of the subject. For my portrait works I am completely crazy fan of my 50mm f1.4 because it create a perfect blur on the pictures, especially at f2.8.

For landscapes and report like Iceland, I use my 16-35mm for impressive picture like huge landscape and to create a big impression of space but I also use the 50mm for more abstract picture.

Constant Forme-Becherat 003

When you travel, what is in your essential photographic kit bag?

For Iceland, I travelled with my camera, for sure, the 16-35mm f2.8 and the 50mm f1.4, the tripod and a microfiber tissue. Good gloves are reeeeaaally necessary if you want to take picture in cold countries. ^^

Constant Forme-Becherat 004

What kind of software/tools do you use for post-processing, if any?

For my report, i only use Lightroom because i consider that if the picture is too modified, it has not the resentment that i felt during the shot.

For portrait, prefer to use Photoshop to create images more thin and precise.

Constant Forme-Becherat 005

How long have you been taking photographs? How do you find inspiration? How do you take your pictures?

I started photography when at the age of 20. After i decided to stop my studies after a licence in advertising and marketing strategy. I always love seeing pictures, understanding how it can be taken. What was the techniques.

And because of that curiosity, I deeply fall in what is now a real passion. I always try things, I always want to experiment new techniques. So I find the inspiration on what i discover or on what which bite my curiosity. When I’m in a country, I always shoot everything. I have a thin line of subject and I try to turn my spiritual approach on what I’ve decided.

Constant Forme-Becherat 006

Which style of photography do you like the most, and why?

I don’t like a special style. I’m always attracted by beautiful pictures. I’m completely open minded. If the subject of a picture is the life of an oyster in the north of San Francisco bay and if the picture is beautiful or bite my curiosity, it will be as much good as a picture taken by a famous photographer. I’m just focus on my personal feelings and how the picture can vibrate on my body.

Constant Forme-Becherat 007

What goal are you working towards within your photography and when will you know you have reached it?

For me, it’s only a question of vibration. If I have the complete feeling that my picture is good or is vibrating, it means that I’ve reached a new step. And when I’ve reunited lot of « vibrating pictures », i try to create a link between them and that’s the moment I erase some of them because the whole are not coherent. To resume, first, the feelings and finally, the concrete part of the work and the research of consistency.

Looking at your own work, which piece is your favourite? Why? Please provide a link to the picture.

I really like the work I’ve made in Iceland. Because it’s my first report and it’s my first lonely travel. I always wanted to go in Iceland but I didn’t find the strength to do that. I’ve decided to experience the loneliness of mind and discover what I’m capable to do. I’m really proud of the report because it’s the beginning of a new way of life. http://www.constant-photographie.com/islande-ce-pays-que-je-n-ai-pas-aime#0

Does your work fit into any one or more distinct genres (nature, landscape, long-exposure, black-and-white, infra-red, urban, artistic, macro, vintage, vernacular, social, street)? If other, please specify.

A part of my work is completely anchored in nature, landscapes, urban and artistic photography. And the other part fit into portrait photography. I’ve done Live Gig photography for two years too so it’s not possible to put my works in a box. I’m a free photographer and it’s a luxury i want to keep.

Constant Forme-Becherat 010

Are there any photography websites that you visit regularly?

I often visit artistic blog like Fubiz because I’m not focus only on photography but design, architecture, drawing are really important to feed my imagination. I follow many photographs on Facebook and it’s a perfect way to see fresh stuff, always reinvented. I also buy lot of photography books.

Constant Forme-Becherat 011

What is the one most important lesson that you have learned since you started taking photographs?

I learned many lesson but the most important is probably « Don’t be idle, if you are not close enough of the subject, move your ass and be closer, you will never be too close of your subject »

Constant Forme-Becherat 012

And finally, what other interesting photographers would you like to see in this blog?

I have many name Yohan Terraza has already an interview on your blog. Probably Sylvain Norget for his amazing portrait work. Anthony Fournier for his curiosity about photography and experimentation. Thomas Babeau for his impressive fashion work. I have probably many other photographers I want to name but they are already big : Erwin Olaf, Ryan McGinley, Annie Leibovitz…..STOP. Haha !

What kind of equipment (camera body, lens, filters, flash, tripod, cleaning equipment other) do you use?

As for my Digital equipment I use Nikon D700, Lens: 24mm 35mm 50mm and 85mm. My analog equipment consists of a Yashica T5.

Emmanuel Rosario 001

What do you like and dislike about your equipment, specially your camera, and how would you improve it?

My Yashica T5 is perfect for various occasions. I like the fast autofocus and sharp Carl Zeiss T* Tessar 3,5/35 lens. I would not change the camera for any other analog camera.
My digital equipment could use an uprade. I still love my camera but working with better equipment I can notice the difference from average grade and professional. As for lenses, they are all D Lenses basically consumer average grade lens. If I could I would get all the Nikon Gold series lens in the same mm (24, 35, 50, and 85 also a 24-70) I also wouldn’t mind upgrading my Body for a D800 if I somehow came across $10,000 to spare. For now I can do anything I want with what I have and I am quite content with my current equipment.

Emmanuel Rosario 002

What is your favorite lens, and why?

Hands down the 35mm. Why? Why not! I think for my kind of work it gives me the perfect balance. I am not one who captures close up portraits too often and generally prefer a little distance to capture a moment. The 35mm is perfect for just that.

Emmanuel Rosario 003

When you travel, what is in your essential photographic kit bag?

Simple, D700 with my 35mm, 32GB memory card and my T5 with two or three rolls of film.

Emmanuel Rosario 004

What kind of software/tools do you use for post-processing, if any?

I like Light Room quite a bit, to be honest I’ve been hooked on it lately, before I used to use only Photoshop and its curves adjustments. Eventually I discovered camera raw and I started to do more work on the raw files. Now I have moved on to Light room which is my primary software at the moment. I don’t do any extreme editing on Photoshop or Lightroom, but I am obsessed with colors and Lightroom provides a variety of fixed color edits/options.

Emmanuel Rosario 005

How long have you been taking photographs? How do you find inspiration? How do you take your pictures?

I have been taking photographs for about 3 years now and find inspiration from movies and other artists.
I’m not sure how exactly to describe how I take pictures… since what I do is documentary photography you kind of just have to feel it out.

Emmanuel Rosario 006

Which style of photography do you like the most, and why?

I am in love with documentary photography. I am fascinated by being able to capture moments that I share with my friends without them being posed. To me documentary photography has this sense of realism that makes it inviting and interesting to the viewer.

Emmanuel Rosario 007

What goal are you working towards within your photography and when will you know you have reached it?

Hmm… not sure really right now, I am trying to finish a book based on a road trip I did with my friends across the U.S. driving by van from New York to Los Angelos. As for goals with my photography I just want to keep making photos that encourages others to travel and discover more of this wonderful world. I don’t think my “Goal” has an ending since I think there is not real ending to discovering places and sharing experiences with others.

Emmanuel Rosario 008

Looking at your own work, which piece is your favorite? Why? Please provide a link to the picture.

I don’t really have a favorite photograph but this one that evokes many memories:
Waiting for the Storm
The reason why I love this picture so much is because we happen to be exploring the Grand Canyon and trekked to an area were we were not allowed and got an amazing view of the storm that was approaching us. To me life is about this discovering the beauty this earth has to offer us and this picture is an embodiment of what I stand for.

Emmanuel Rosario 009

Does your work fit into any one or more distinct genres (nature, landscape, long-exposure, black-and-white, infra-red, urban, artistic, macro, vintage, vernacular, social, street)? If other, please specify.

I think my work is Lifestyle-Documentary. I don’t plan what I photograph I just have adventures with my friends and photograph those moments with them.

Emmanuel Rosario 011

Are there any photography websites that you visit regularly?

Well I am always on tumblr looking at many other artists work, from illustrations to sculptures, I really enjoy viewing the creativity of others in various mediums. I also lovehttp://bewaremag.com/en they don’t just post photographic work but other various art mediums.

Emmanuel Rosario 012

What is the one most important lesson that you have learned since you started taking photographs?

I think the most important lesson is to understand your work and learn from your mistakes. No one starts off knowing how to do anything; we all take time to learn. It takes time to improve but in order to improve we must understand fully what we are doing. To know how everything works and how to achieve that look or colors that we want. Many people ask me what camera I use and to be honest the camera is not what makes the photograph. Yes it helps but what many people don’t understand is that a camera is just a tool to make what you want. For example many people ask me what film camera I use but the real question should be what film do I use. The camera is just a body but the film and the lens are what makes the image look how it does along with understanding the light around you etc. For digital cameras now a days are quite similar and you can do the same with any digital camera once you know how the camera functions. Post-editing is where the real magic happens because we must edit a digital file in order to shape how we want it to look but again it goes back to understanding the techniques, lights, composition, and how to edit with the various soft wears that are available to us. Learning from my “mistakes” and how to improve my work is what has allowed me to do what I do now, so go out and try to understand how the film works and how to edit in digital and you will see your work improve!

What kind of equipment (camera body, lens, filters, flash, tripod, cleaning equipment other) do you use?

I mostly use film cameras, 35mm and medium format cameras but planning to try large format too. I use at this moment Pentax Asahi ES II with 50mm/1.8 and 135mm/2.8, lenses that I also use on digital cameras with an adapter (Nikon1 V1 and my first camera Pentax K10D)

What do you like and dislike about your equipment, specially your camera, and how would you improve it?

The price of the lenses usually but I use manual lenses instead so it turns out ok 🙂

What is your favourite lens, and why?

My favorite in the old Pentacon 135/2.8 lens, it has a special feel to it, i love it’s soft focus and bokeh.

When you travel, what is in your essential photographic kit bag?

I use only my Nikon1 kit with 10-30mm and 30-110mm.

What kind of software/tools do you use for post-processing, if any?

I am currently using software to process my images but my goal is to process them only in the darkroom.

How long have you been taking photographs? How do you find inspiration? How do you take your pictures?

I an photographic for 5 years on and off but I have been studying arts for 10 years now. I prefer domestic interiors because they give a feeling of authenticity to the image, I usually find inspiration in the things I read. I photograph things the way I’d like them to be seen by the others.

Which style of photography do you like the most, and why?

It’s the nude photography, for me the human body is the most interesting to work with, it gives you endless possibilities and it’s a challenge to photograph it in unusual ways.

What goal are you working towards within your photography and when will you know you have reached it?

At this moment the goal is to make every photo better than the previous one. On long term to make images that will be remembered.

Looking at your own work, which piece is your favorite? Why? Please provide a link to the picture.

My definitely favorite remains the ‘Vase’, a photo that i took on my birthday 3 years ago because it’s the closest to what my goal is in photography.

Does your work fit into any one or more distinct genres (nature, landscape, long-exposure, black-and-white, infra-red, urban, artistic, macro, vintage, vernacular, social, street)? If other, please specify.

I also enjoy street photography by my main body of work remains fine art nude photography.

Are there any photography websites that you visit regularly?

Yes, a few but I prefer to study the classics and read as much as possible because that’s where I find my inspiration.

What is the one most important lesson that you have learned since you started taking photographs?

That you must experiment in order to know what fits you.

And finally, what other interesting photographers would you like to see in this blog?

Oh, there are too many that I appreciate for their work in various fields of photography, I couldn’t name just a few.

What kind of equipment (camera body, lens, filters, flash, tripod, cleaning equipment other) do you use?

I use a Canon 5D Mark III and the only lens I use (and I have) is a Canon 35 mm  f 1.4

What do you like and dislike about your equipment, specially your camera, and how would you improve it?

It’s a minimalist equipment. I eliminated all the superfluous (flash, tripod). The camera, very technical, exceeds my requirements. I’m not focused on technique and  I am only using a small part part of multiple features.

The camera and the lens are a little bit too heavy.

What is your favourite lens, and why?

I groped, tried several lenses. The fixed focal length 35mm suits me perfectly. It allows me to include my many and moving subjects and I know immediately what can be part of the frame.

When you travel, what is in your essential photographic kit bag?

It should be as light as possible.

What kind of software/tools do you use for post-processing, if any?

I shoot in RAW format. I use Camera raw included in Photoshop . I make my little finishing touches with Photoshop.

How long have you been taking photographs? How do you find inspiration? How do you take your pictures?

I’m a father of six. My children are my subject, It’s a limitless subject.
I just have to look, children are creative, you just need to be there waiting for things to happen up in the frame and “click”.
Today my children moving and playing in their own environment with their spontaneous behaviour are my privileged motives.
My photography looks like a kind of daily diary began in 2006.

My omnipresence with my camera made me invisible. I learned to anticipate the movements of children, cats, projections of water, moving objects. I place myself and I wait for things to put in place like a choreography.

I am extremely present with my children. I’m there when they play and this is often the game that introduces the photographic idea.
Sometimes of course you need a boost, a gesture may suffice, or a verbal indication such as “do that again to see! “Or” back a little, “or” wait … go there! ‘
These are most often indications of placing or time, without explanation of what I want to photograph.
I think they have become accustomed to these few words launched. The important thing is to do it in motion, do not stop the game for a briefing . All is in real time.

Which style of photography do you like the most, and why?

I do not prefer a particular style, but I like photography focused on people. I love when a picture arouses emotion, tells a story.

What goal are you working towards within your photography and when will you know you have reached it?

Every day I share my photos via internet. I totally recognized the universal and timeless dimension of my photographic work by reading testimonials from other people from around the world. It is fantastic to be able, without any artifice that removal of color, share daily days pieces of our family life, and find a positive response to this simple life close to nature. Immerse someone in their own childhood through photography is very rewarding. The use of black and white probably reinforces this feeling.
I cannot count the testimonies of people remembering them in the country with their grandparents, or finding the smell of summer vacation …
I like the idea that someone could delve into his own life by reading a picture of crossed random stranger on the web.

What is sure is that this “vein” of the family photo is not a calculation or a conscious decision on my part. However ,these universal comments necessarily influence my photographic production.

As long as I bring something to  people I will continue.

Looking at your own work, which piece is your favourite? Why? Please provide a link to the picture.

It’s “waiting for the postman” because this photo has initiated the series .it is not the most technically accomplished but it is dear to my heart.

Does your work fit into any one or more distinct genres  (nature, landscape, long-exposure, black-and-white,  infra-red, urban, artistic, macro, vintage, vernacular, social, street)? If other, please specify.

I take the expression of an internet people telling that my photos are “street family”.

I’m quite fascinated by the “street photography”  It isn’t something I can practice because I live in the countryside, but I find my work quite close to this spirit there.

There are similarities in the crude side and spontaneous situations photographed. These are pieces of life that transcribe a certain reality.

Are there any photography websites that you visit regularly?

These are the social networks (Facebook,Flickr) that lead me to new photographic discoveries.

What is the one most important lesson that you have learned since you started taking photographs?

Do not be trapped by the technique but let me flooded by my subject.

And finally, what other interesting photographers would you like to see in this blog?

Joseph- Philippe Bevillard: http://www.joseph-philippebevillard.com/  I really love his work, fascinating!
